Lighting is Essential

Today, we can enjoy two kinds of light, natural and artificial.  The first is a gift of nature, the latter a boon of centuries-old technology.   Natural light is not entirely within our control, but the second enables us to control our environment.  Our choice of lighting and how we distribute it throughout our living space determines how our home feels and how comfortable we feel there as well.

Lighting a room doesn’t always finish the job. The difference between “just-okay” and “just-what-you-need” are in the extra little details. For example, nothing is quite as dramatic as a chandelier, however, it’s more often than not a statement of good design rather than good lighting.. It needs to be augmented by functional lighting.  Ambient lighting illuminates an entire space, but may be too much!! Functional lighting will still be necessary for close work such as reading or needle work.  When light is directed toward a specific space, less energy is needed to achieve the appropriate light.
